Game Log 3: Imagine

Use the following questions as a reference for your documentation. Feel free to edit the format.

From the game-making process:

  • What have you learned, what decisions have you made, and how have you progressed in your thinking?

We have discussed the feedback and choises received and made the previous day and decided what to continue with. We ended up making a new playing board, as there were items glued on that we aren't going to use anymore. We came up with a new story, based on the feedback and changed items and added characters accordingly. We came up with an end goal and an item that could lead up to that goal. We also found a better way to make every player work together or against eachother. This way, there is more conflict in the game, making it less 'tame'.

  • Share any pictures from your game design process and playtest.

From the playtest:

  • How was the engagement with the EU values perceived by the players of the game?
Democracy was understood immediately because of the voting during the game. The others needed to be explained a bit more, but was understood slightly as well.
    • What can be improved?
The interaction (which is important for democracy and equality) needs to be more prominent during the game.
  • How playable was the prototype so far for the others?
    • Did the players understand the instructions?
Yes, but it took a little bit to understand.

    • What could be changed to improve it?
We could add a legend to explain the items and a bit more context on the card.
    • Did the players understand the mechanics?
    Yes
    • What could be changed to improve it?
Maybe more interaction between the players, which will introduce more tension and tactics. The board isn't that prominent in the game, it's more cards and the die, so we need to use the board more. Maybe we could make the land more individual to show the height differences and maybe let players gather resources etc. on their land.

What are your action points for the upcoming day?

The board will be obsolete, because it is barely used. Therefore, we will be making it a card game. We will make a box for the cards. We will add mayor cards that can be dealt at the start of the game, the players will take that role. The water level will be added to visualise the goal of the game, every player will have their own.
